Career in Education

SHOULD YOU TAKE EDUCATION AS A CAREER?

A survey recently carried out in a school confirmed that not many school children would love to grow up to become a teacher. The reasons are not far-fetched, “teachers are not respected”, “teachers are not well paid”, and so many of the likes about teachers’ predicaments in this country. One only wonders that even children are very much aware that teachers are yet to take their rightful place in this country. This is true and there is no denying the fact, but let us for a moment look away from the problems and find out what career in education is all about.

Career in education or the teaching profession is great and rewarding, the myriads of challenges notwithstanding. In fact it is the noblest. Come to think of it, what could anybody become without the teacher? Whatever anyone is today or would be tomorrow, whether a lawyer, engineer, pilot, doctor, politician, just name it, is through the instrumentality of nothing but the teaching profession.

It is commonly said and it is very true that education is the best legacy. It is the bed rock of any nation being primarily responsible for the overall development of a country by ensuring a robust and vibrant human resource. This supports the fact that the teaching profession is very important if not the most important.

The word “education” could be understood as the acquisition of knowledge, information, facts, skills, concepts, attitude and values that can change the behavior of a person in a desirable manner. It is viewed as the dialogue between the past, present and the future, involving the passage of accumulated lessons and knowledge to the incoming generation.

The teaching profession is as interesting as it is challenging. But, as you will soon discover, it is very rewarding. It is filled with varying opportunities and possibilities.
